Well I must say this, parenting is a tough job but it’s definitely worth every minute.
Watching my son grow each and every day, learning new skills is ever so entertaining.
Lately there have been ups and downs. He’s 9 months now and such an amazing kid. Recently we had to get him to go see the doctor as he had croup.
It was quite frightening at first as I thought he had difficulty in breathing with the sounds he made.
He was also prescribed with antibiotics to help reduce swelling of his throat and such.
He has recovered from croup, however there appears to be some side effects from the antibiotics treatment.
Quite recently he had started developing thrush around his inner lips on and his tongue. I first noticed this 2-3 days ago which I calmly though it was due to weather causing his lips to dry up.
My wife figured out it was thrush. Googling around, it appears thrush does occur when one is under antibiotic treatment.
What happens is best explained below (taken from Yakult FAQ page, after finding out that acidophilus helps treat thrush) :
When taking a course of antibiotics, some of the beneficial bacteria in the digestive system may be destroyed. The resulting imbalance of the intestinal flora may result in problems such as thrush or diarrhoea. Drinking Yakult with its unique strain of bacteria has shown to be most helpful in re-establishing a balance of beneficial bacteria in the digestive system during antibiotic treatment.
Well, it looks like I’ll be giving him some taste of Vitagen, Yakult and Yoghurts for the next few days in hopes it will help reduce thrush. InysAllah.
